Rebuild - (single bearing quill)

Rebuild - (single bearing quill)

In addition to running SMOOTHER and more ACCURATE, a rebuild will make the machine run QUIETER and COOLER. Over time, wear increases on the machine making noise and heat. The added heat drys the belts causing them to crack. These factors also diminish the efficiency of your motor causing power loss.

Whether your machine is well-used or stiff from lack of use, we can rebuild your Shopsmith Mark V headstock. We promise your machine will run quiter and stronger as a result.

With a headstock rebuild you will get the following:

  • All necessary cleaning and lubricating (see tune-up)
  • Minor filing, machining of metal parts
  • Replace toggle Switch
  • Power cord
  • Replace all bearings (total of 5)
  • Replace belts
  • Idler shaft
  • Control sheave assembly (if needed)
  • Fasteners
  • Quadrant assembly (if needed)
  • Long key (if needed)
  • Sheave spacer (if needed)
  • Allen set screw (if needed)
  • Speed control handle (if needed)

In addition, if speed control assembly is irreparable we will replace the following:

  • Speed control assembly (see speed control add-on)
  • Speed control bracket
  • Worm control shaft

NOTE: Rebuild is for single-bearing quill headstocks built after 1953. As always, if there are additional repairs necessary we will contact you before proceeding with any repairs.

Headstocks with Franklin built motors require a special set of bearings which will add $20-30 to the price depending on market value of bearings at the time of purchase. Rebuild does not include new electric motor, however, if necessary, we can upgrade your equipment with a new motor. We do not do any electrical rebuilds. We recommend going with a new motor for maximum horsepower. More power!!!
